As the 5th installment of the "2015 FC Tokyo Monthly Goods," we will start selling the "FC Tokyo Fan" from July 15 (Wednesday).
 

This year, we asked the long-established fan shop Ibasen to make them for us.
 

Iba-sen was founded by Iba-ya Kanzabemon, a merchant from Hamamatsu who came to Edo with Tokugawa Ieyasu. The shop name Iba-ya was given because the founder's hometown was Iba Village in Enshu (now Iba Town in Hamamatsu City). Additionally, the founding year, 18th year of Tenshō (1590 AD), is also the year the founder was born, and since the exact founding date is uncertain, our company considers this birth year as the founding year. 
At the time of its founding, it was located in Edo Nihonbashi Horie-cho (now Nihonbashi Kobunacho in Chuo City, Tokyo), handling orders for the Edo Shogunate, mainly dealing in washi paper and bamboo products. From the late Edo period, it began to handle uchiwa ukiyo-e and spread the name "Ibaya" throughout Edo as a publisher for artists such as Toyokuni I, Kuniyoshi, and Hiroshige.
Currently, the paintings from the "Ibasen edition" of that time can be seen not only in domestic museums but also in renowned overseas museums such as the British Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Van Gogh Museum.
