INTERVIEW 2023.4.12

4/12 Soma ANZAI 2025 Season Joining Confirmation Interview

Q: Please tell us about the circumstances leading up to your joining.
A, I participated in the pre-season camp and had a lot of time to think over the following two months. During that time, my desire to take on a challenge in Tokyo grew stronger, and I decided to join for the 2025 season.

Q: Since you will be joining after two seasons, there may be changes within the team. What has the club communicated to you regarding this?
A, my strength is being able to play in various positions. Before deciding to join at an early stage, I had many conflicts, but I have a very strong desire to challenge myself at a high level. Regarding how I am utilized, I will do my best to consistently participate in matches in the position given to me.

Q: Please tell us the reason you chose Tokyo among various paths.
A, I participated in the camp and found something that resonated with me. I thought Tokyo was the club where it would be easier to balance both soccer and studies by deciding at this timing. Tokyo was the club where my feelings turned into actions and where various intentions of mine aligned.

Q: I have the impression that there were many high-quality players in FC Tokyo U-15 Fukagawa, where Anzai was enrolled at the time.
A, that's right. I had the impression that there were many players with high individual skills. Yusuke Aoki, who played together with me, scored many goals in the Prince Takamado Trophy JFA Sec. 35 All Japan U-15 Soccer Championship and also participated in Japan national team activities. Including other players, there were many players with high individual abilities.

Q: Could you tell us again about the characteristics of your play?
A, I don't have any outstanding abilities, but my strength lies in being able to play consistently in every aspect of the game and my fighting spirit, especially in close ball situations.

Q: Please tell us about the type of player you aspire to be.
A, I want to become a player who can lead the team to victory. Through my play, I want to ignite the passion of those watching. I hope to deliver courage and energy.

Q: Please tell us about fighting in the same uniform as Kuryu MATSUKI (since high school).
A, I have also watched Matsuki's performance during his university days. However, I have a strong fresh feeling about being able to play soccer together with the "new Kuryu MATSUKI."

Q: I believe you must have felt regret about not being able to be promoted to FC Tokyo U-18 yourself, Anzai player.
A, I entered high school with that frustrating feeling. I was determined to aim even higher from here. I believe that frustration became the nourishment for my growth.

Q: It was refreshing to see you play as a full-back during the camp.
During my time at FC Tokyo U-15 Fukagawa, I also played as a side back, and in the Kanto University Soccer League at Waseda University, I was a starting side back. I consider the side back position as one of my options individually as well.

Q: Do you have a strong desire to play as a specially designated player by the JFA and J-League?
A, that's right. I seriously want to break into the match lineup, and that is one of the reasons I decided to join at this point. I want to actively appeal and get involved in matches as soon as possible.

Q: There are players like Masato MORISHIGE and Yuto NAGATOMO who have experienced the World Cup. What do you want to learn from these experienced players?
A, It is valuable to be able to play alongside players who have fought representing Japan. I want to firmly absorb the opinions they share based on their experience and make them my own.

Q: What position do you think player Anzai will play?
A, I think my main position will be as a side back. I have also played as an inside half and a wing, and at Waseda University, I have experience as a side half as well. I want to keep my past experiences as options.

Q: Is it good to have an image of multiplayer?
A, receiving the ball in a central position, I am not bad at a possession style. I want to receive the ball in an inside position and manage it effectively.
