<Match Review>
FC Tokyo U-15 Musashi participated in the 34th Japan Club Youth Championship (U-15) held from August 15 to 24 in Obihiro City, Hokkaido.
Achieved a result of 3rd place nationwide.
In the Semifinal Round held on the 23rd at Obihiro Forest Stadium A, Musashi faced Sagan Tosu U-15, the champions from two years ago.
Unfortunately, the rain is pouring down, and the thermometer shows a temperature of 16.3℃.
Amidst the pouring wind and rain, the perceived temperature felt lower than those numbers.
However, the players, encouraged by the cheers of the fans and supporters who rushed all the way to Obihiro, showcased a passionate game that made them forget the cold.
What troubled us in this match were the puddles created by the pouring rain and the unevenness on the pitch caused by the consecutive matches during the summer.
As Coach Kita said, "Both are under the same conditions," so there was no advantage or disadvantage created by this. However, it is certainly true that the intended careful build-up from the defense and goalkeeper became difficult, leading to an increase in straightforward long balls. It turned into a battle based on fierce competition in the air and ground combat.
As Coach Makoto KITA exclaimed, "Even players who are not tall have strong legs and hips," we are being dominated by Tosu in plays involving physical contact.
There were many instances of losing the loose balls, and it became a flow where we faced a lot of shots from the first half.
However, as Coach Kita reflected, "Although we had many strong players, through this tournament, we have become better at playing for our teammates," the players, including those in the front line, maintained a coordinated defensive awareness and resiliently countered Tosu's offensive pressure.
FW Naoki KUMATA and others created scenes approaching the goal, ending the first half with a flow that was definitely not bad.
In the second half, it was Musashi who changed the course of the match.
In the 53rd minute, after a series of battles from a throw-in, Fukuoka took advantage of the situation, and finally, FW Teruichi Taguchi received the ball in space and slotted it in with his right foot.
A circle of joy was born, and it seemed that they had seized the momentum of the match, but from here they faced a fierce counterattack from Tosu.
DF Kanta DOI said, "After we scored, there were moments when the team became complacent. During that time, I should have communicated more to calm everyone down and we needed to play a bit slower," biting his lip.
In the 59th minute, we conceded an equalizing goal from a free kick that could only be praised by the opponent, and then in the 79th minute, just before the end of the second half, we allowed a goal from an attack from the side. We allowed a comeback.
Even after being turned around, the Musashino players did not give up and launched a fierce attack. In the end, even GK Nishiyama Sota joined the attack to aim for the equalizing goal, but they could not break through the Tosu goal.
The scoreboard remained at 1-2 as we heard the final whistle of the match.
"Today was a match that made us feel our lack of strength," said Coach Kita frankly. He reflected, "There were good moments, like when we took the lead, but overall, there were long periods of struggle. I believe there were areas where we fell short, and I think Tosu was stronger than us."
It was a statement that looked not only at the results but also at the content, such as being outshot by about three times.
The coach analyzes, "I think we lacked the ability to think and come up with ideas in an environment where (accidental) things happen naturally, aside from what was said in the meeting, such as responding to the pitch conditions that were not bad due to the rain."
However, at the same time, I think they showed the strength they have now, and since they finished third in the nation, I also praised the efforts of the players who have made it this far.
Furthermore, he summarized, "It was a wonderful tournament, and they grew by overcoming challenges in each match. If they can connect the experiences and confidence gained here to the next stage, it would be great."
I vowed to achieve further growth together with the players towards the next tournament and the next stage.
