INTERVIEW 2023.7.24

7/24 Riki HARAKAWA Loan Transfer Interview
"To enhance my own value"

Q: What were your feelings when making the decision for this transfer?
A, looking back on my career so far, I have little experience staying at the same club for a long time, and I understand the advantages and disadvantages of transferring. The timing also coincided with my desire for a new environment and fresh motivation, so I decided to transfer to Tokyo.

Q: What was your state of mind when you received the offer?
A, I think it was relatively quick to decide on the loan transfer to Tokyo. I also had the desire and feeling to play from scratch in a different environment. This is my first experience with a summer transfer, and I've heard that it can be difficult, but I'm looking forward to seeing how I will grow from here.

Q: This season, how did you feel while playing despite not getting much playing time?
A, practicing repeatedly is important, but it is crucial to participate in official matches as a player. I believe there are many things that can only be gained through matches, so I want to be actively involved as a member of the match squad. Peter CKLAMOVSKI was appointed as the coach of Tokyo midway through the season and it has not been long since then, so I want to fully understand the style of play and tactics the team wants to express and play accordingly.

Q: Is this a transfer in search of playing opportunities?
A, that's right. If I don't participate in matches, the sensory aspects and rhythm fade away. I want to improve so that I can play consistently.

Q: How did you view Tokyo as an opponent?
A, aggressive play in both offense and defense, with a very strong forward mindset impression.

Q: As a member of Tokyo, how do you want to contribute to the team with your play?
I believe that midfield players, especially defensive midfielders, are required to have a high work rate, and I want to contribute an extra edge in the attacking aspect. During my time at Cerezo Osaka, I often played as a holding midfielder and had fewer opportunities to push forward and get involved in attacks. So, just like when I was with Sagan Tosu, I want to regain the feeling of playing up front and scoring goals here in Tokyo.

Q: The league has entered the second half of the season. How do you want to spend the rest of the season?
Now that I have transferred to Tokyo, I want to deliver results first and foremost. If I don't produce results, considering I joined during the summer transfer window, I think it will be difficult to fit well into the team. I want to balance understanding what kind of football Coach Peter CKLAMOVSKI is seeking and how I can showcase my own strengths within that framework.

Q, it seems that it doesn't take much time to fit into Tokyo's soccer style.
When I was at C Osaka, I played in a slightly deeper position, so I was not involved in many goal-scoring plays. I believe that a box-to-box style of play is expected in Tokyo, and I want to regain the sense of being involved in goal-scoring opportunities. I watched Tokyo's matches, and there were many occasions where the defensive midfielders pushed forward, so I want to be conscious of playing near the goal.

Q: Although it is a half-season loan, what kind of career do you want to pursue from here?

A, I left C Osaka because I wanted to level up once again. Watching players with long careers, they maintain high performance even after turning 30. I decided to transfer with the desire to enhance my own value in Tokyo.
