INTERVIEW 2024.1.28

2024 CAMP REPORT & INTERVIEW
vol.7 Kuryu MATSUKI

The camp has reached its 10th day, and today marks the final day of the camp in Kunigami Village. Since we had travel plans in the afternoon, we conducted light training in the morning.

What I mentioned at the beginning was a game-style icebreaker. We developed the coordination between the mind and body through movements based on the coach's instructions.

After that, we conducted training focused on shooting and the battle in front of the goal, divided into two groups.

In shooting training, instant judgment and decisiveness required in front of the goal are demanded. In the training for offensive and defensive plays in front of the goal conducted on a half court, the strength in ball contests, which Coach Peter CKLAMOVSKI has strongly emphasized since last season, was demonstrated, while simultaneously enhancing the completeness of building the game by utilizing the pitch widely.

After the overall practice ended, we took commemorative photos with everyone from the Kaigin Field Kunigami, who took care of us during the Okinawa Kunigami camp, as well as the staff from our accommodation and the people involved in Kunigami Village. Once again, thank you to everyone who supported the Kunigami camp.

After practice, we conducted an interview with number 7 Kuryu MATSUKI.

Q: The Okinawa Kunigami camp has concluded today. Please tell us about the results of the first camp.
I believe we were able to create a good foundation by sharing each category of attack, defense, and set plays in detail throughout the entire team.

Q. It felt like there were many practices focused on improving accuracy and refining what the team has been building since last season.
There are also newly joined players, and I believe that there are players with unique characteristics in Tokyo. This is the second season under Coach Peter CKLAMOVSKI, and I feel that the players' understanding of the style of football we want to express as a team has improved. With good players gathered as a team, I feel that we are building a strong team.

Q. On the 23rd, there was also a practice match against FC Ryukyu. How well were you able to demonstrate the results of the first training camp on the pitch?
A, Coach Klamovski has asked the team to share space in the front line as a whole. I think we did well in that regard against Ryukyu. We also saw a lot of goals scored in terms of goal conversion rate. While there are still issues regarding conceding goals, I believe it is important for the team to increase the number of matches without conceding. I would like to make sure to address the identified issues during the second and third camps.

Q: In the practice matches, Matsuki himself was seen playing in higher positions more frequently than last season.
I think we are being asked to score. Coach Klamovski is also aiming for a team that can score with four players in the front line, so I want to contribute to that.

Q, There is only one week left in the camp. What aspects do you want to improve as you move forward toward the league opening?
We have a practice match coming up, and I am very excited. I want to see how we position ourselves to move the ball against the opponent's press and in the attacking phase. During the Okinawa Kunigami camp, we did a lot of training on set plays. I want to translate the results of our practice into outcomes.
