INTERVIEW2022.3.08

Interview with Ryoya OGAWA

Q, please review the C Osaka game.
A, I think we were able to play the football we wanted very well until the red cards in the first and second halves. After the red cards, it became a tough situation, but I'm glad we were able to win.

Q: What factors contributed to being able to play the soccer you wanted?
A, it was the fact that we were able to quickly regain possession after losing the ball. We were able to stifle the opponent's attack early and connect it to our own offense. I believe that the scene of scoring, as well as our ability to switch between offense and defense and defend from a high position in the opponent's territory, were some of the factors that helped us seize the momentum.

Q: I think it was significant that the players behind were able to move in coordination. What are your thoughts on that?
I think there were parts where the players in the front line were able to press by pushing up from the back, raising the line high and keeping it compact.

Q: It seemed like you were able to induce mistakes in the opponent's build-up. Was it because you were applying pressure effectively?
A, I think our press was quick after losing the ball, which led to many opportunities for the opponent to make mistakes. We were able to grasp the flow of the game more easily.

Q: I think the last 30 minutes were a long time to endure. What were you conscious of during that time?
A, anyway, the ability to defend well has been a strength since the time of former coach Kenta HASEGAWA, and it was something we were accustomed to. However, I wanted us to have a bit more awareness of connecting the ball even after going down to 10 men. At the point we went down to 10 men, we stopped trying to connect and focused on defending, so I believe it would have been better if we continued to connect the ball and maintained Tokyo's style even with one less player. This is still a challenge, and I want to work on improving it moving forward.

Q: In the first half, it seemed smooth to change positions while being aware of the lanes and the surrounding players.
A, while observing the positioning of Adailton and Matsuki, we decided on our positions to avoid overlapping as much as possible, and Morishige has been working on positioning that makes it easier for him to pass since the camp.

Q: For the next match, do you envision controlling the game for a long time, including possession?
I want to play in a way that allows us to control the ball and the game throughout the match.
