PLAYERS FILE 2024
KEITA YAMASHITA

First, one goal──
No one can match my determination to score
FW 14 Keita YAMASHITA

A special content introducing all the blue and red warriors challenging the 2024 season. What are the players, who are about to start the season, thinking and what kind of determination are they bringing into the year? The stories of the players, who hold in their hearts their love for the club, their thirst for titles, their aspirations for success, and the roles they must fulfill──. Keita YAMASHITA is steadily progressing in rehabilitation towards his return from injury. The one who is looking forward to his goals more than anyone else is none other than himself, who has been living through unexpected days.

The season of revival is about to begin. It is the third season since I first put on the blue and red uniform, and the striker, who is more determined than anyone else saying, "This season for sure," is preparing smoothly to return to the pitch and bring a rain of goals to Ajinomoto.

For Keita YAMASHITA, the past two years can only be described as a time of "unfulfilled potential." He arrived in Tokyo as a promising Japanese striker for the 2022 season, but finished with no goals. Considering his record of 9 goals scored for Sagan Tosu the previous season, it is hard not to call this outcome a disappointment. Last season, he transferred on loan to Shonan Bellmare, but suffered a serious injury to his left knee meniscus in the summer, causing him to miss the entire season.

Returning to Tokyo, this season has started with rehabilitation and I won't be ready in time for the opening match, but little by little I am able to do more, and with the prospect of kicking the ball coming into view, a smile has returned to my face. I remind myself that "there's no need to rush," and while facing my body in preparation for my return, I have started to cherish each day and think about what lies ahead.

"Of course, all forwards want to score goals, but this season, I have no intention of losing that feeling to anyone. When asked about my goals at the beginning of the season, I used to aim for double-digit goals, but for now, it's just about scoring one goal. I am filled with the desire to score one goal for Tokyo and share the joy with everyone."

There is no doubt about his ability as a goal scorer. Rather, with the cross attacks from both sides likely forming a cohesive strategy for the team this season, the new number 14's playing style, which confidently charges into the near post and can connect with crosses both in terms of points and areas, is a perfect fit.

"I can't help but feel restless. Ever since I came to Tokyo. There are still many things I need to do, but once I return, I want to work really hard."

Keita YAMASHITA, who is likely hungrier for soccer and goals than anyone else right now. I can't wait to see him release the pent-up frustration he has been building for the past two years.
