Breaking Away from Being a Counter Player
A New Possibility Shown by Brazil's "Master"
MF 70 Jája Silva
A special content introducing all the blue-red warriors challenging the 2024 season. What are the players, who are about to start the season, thinking and what determination are they bringing into the year? The stories of the players, who hold in their hearts their love for the club, their thirst for titles, their aspirations for success, and the roles they must fulfill──. Jája Silva, who became a member of the team midway through last season. He showcased his presence as a super sub with outstanding speed, but in the new season, he is displaying a new playing style like never before. What impact will his potential have on the team? All eyes are on the future.

The 2023 season will likely be remembered as an unsatisfactory season. The most significant factor was injuries. On October 14 of last year, I injured my right fibula ligament and was out for four weeks. It was painful to see me practicing with tape as I rejoined the team. I finally made my return in the league's final match against Shonan Bellmare on December 3, where I came on as a substitute for 18 minutes, but a full-fledged comeback would have to wait until the start of the 2024 season.
"It was very unfortunate that I got injured when I was gradually fitting in after coming to Tokyo during last season. However, I have been able to play without injury in the new season, and I feel good. From the first day of training to the end of camp, I have been able to spend time with my teammates, so things are going well in various aspects. I didn't have the opportunity to start last season, so I want to contribute as a starter this season."
After returning to Tokyo from camp, Jája smiled and said this. He utilized his natural speed as a counter-attacking player when he came on, breaking through and pushing down the opponent's defensive line, putting pressure on the opposing goalkeeper. This is something he is good at. However, it was difficult to say that he fully showcased his strengths in that role. On the other hand, this season, Jája's inherent soft ball touch and ideas that survey the game situation are coming to life. The charm of Brazil's 'master craftsman' is becoming evident.
"I have both a playing style where I break through and receive the ball, and a playing style where I receive the ball and play it forward," he said confidently, suggesting that Jaja's image is likely to be significantly transformed in a positive direction.
While confidently stating that it will be a "wonderful season" regarding the team's performance, he was humble about himself.
"Only God knows whether good results will come or not. I want to do my best to contribute to the team with what I have. That's all."
There is no hesitation in the fluid attack that moves between the top and the right side positions. Jaja's new possibilities are also expanding Tokyo's potential.
