[Player/Coach Comments]
Dramatic comeback with only 4 minutes left. Stunning victory, a huge upset on enemy territory!!
As the culmination of the Spanish expedition, the Juan Alano Cup (named after former Deportivo La Coruña player Juan Alano) was held. As for Tokyo, head coach Hara and the players and staff were looking forward to seeing how much they could showcase their own soccer against Deportivo, which they consider a model for tactics.
The match started with Tokyo taking the lead and aggressively attacking their opponents. On the other hand, Deportivo seemed to be carefully studying Tokyo's strength and were prepared to defend against it. Kelly showed his full potential, evading the double pivot of Sergio Duscher and passing the ball to the front line. However, their strong defensive line prevented any decisive moments. After 15 minutes, Deportivo gradually started to show their strength. Valeron made his presence known and sent through passes. There were some dangerous moments, but our defensive line, including Shioda, did not allow any scoring opportunities. The first half ended with a 0-0 score.
Deportivo made a substitution in the second half. In the 17th minute, Muniz passed to Valeron in the center from the right side. Valeron then played a one-two with Tristan in a tight space in front of the goal, and then passed a short through ball to Victor. Victor broke through the defense line and scored the first goal. However, just one minute later, in the 18th minute, Baba passed a vertical through ball from the right side. Lucas received it and cut inside, evading the defenders and shooting. The goalkeeper saved it, but it ended up being a goal, tying the game. After that, La Coruna aggressively attacked, knowing they couldn't end the game like this. On the other hand, Tokyo made substitutions, bringing in fresh players as they started to show signs of fatigue. Both teams created chances, but couldn't convert them, and it seemed like the game would end in a tie and go to penalty kicks. In the 41st minute, Lucas passed a through ball in front of the goal, but it was deflected by a defender. However, Kajiyama reacted to the loose ball, beating the opponent to it and taking a one-touch shot. The shot from outside the penalty area curved and grazed the goalkeeper's hand before going into the net. The stadium erupted in cheers for the dramatic comeback goal. After that, for the remaining 10 minutes including stoppage time, Deportivo launched a fierce attack, but Tokyo managed to hold on and secure a stunning victory on enemy territory.
