Direct Confrontation!
"A direct showdown between 2nd place (Tokyo) and 3rd place (Oita)!" This match on this day could not only result in a drop to 3rd place for the losing team, but also potentially give the top-ranked Kawasaki Frontale a chance to pull away. For Tokyo, this is a crucial moment. And for Oita, who has persistently remained in the top ranks, it is a match that they must win in order to avoid regret later on.
Losing rhythm due to early goals
In the previous match, both teams were unable to play the kind of soccer they wanted and suffered a close defeat. On this day, both teams approached the game with an attacking formation. Tokyo put Almir, who was used as a defensive midfielder in the previous match, in a more advanced position to increase the movement in the front line and create more chances. On the other hand, Oita started Choi, who along with Will serves as the starting point for their attacks, in the starting lineup to strengthen their offensive power.
In the first half, when the game started, Tokyo launched a strong attack first. They quickly took a corner kick and Amaral took a close shot. Tokyo connected the ball rhythmically in the midfield with Yukihiro and Almir at the center, and built up their attack. However, in the 6th minute, due to a momentary lapse of concentration, they fouled an Oita player near the left penalty area and gave away a free kick. Oita midfielder Will took the shot, which hit Tokyo's wall and changed direction, rolling into the goal. Tokyo, who had conceded a goal in the early stages of the game in enemy territory, lost their momentum and the game, which had been going at Tokyo's pace, suddenly shifted to Oita's pace. Oita, with Choi as the starting point, created numerous opportunities with Will's dribbling and passes, and forwards Kamiya and Shiokawa used their speed to break through Tokyo's defense. In particular, Will's dribbling and passing were outstanding, making it difficult to stop him.
After that, although Oita had slightly longer ball possession, the attack and defense continued almost evenly. In the 18th minute, Fujiyama, who had been showing sharp dribbles towards the left side, cut into the center and dribbled into the penalty area, causing the Oita DF to panic and commit a foul! A PK was awarded. Amaral calmly scored to tie the game. However, the joy was short-lived as in the 27th minute, the left side was easily broken through and a cross was made. Oita DF Wakamatsu overlapped and scored a powerful diving header, once again reversing the score to 1-2.
Revived by Kaginoki's entry!?
In the second half, Amaral, who was not in good condition, was substituted for Kagami. Kagami demonstrated his speed and agility, causing chaos in the Oita defense. As a result, Oita's marking, which had been perfect until then, began to slip gradually. This allowed Tokyo to regain control of the midfield and start utilizing their passing game. In the 58th minute, Fujiyama, who had the ball near the center circle, made a perfect through pass to Amaral, who was running towards the front line. The Oita defender who was competing with Amaral was a step behind and passed the ball back to the goalkeeper, who picked it up with his hands, resulting in an indirect free kick (near the penalty mark). Yukihiro passed the free kick to the side, and Sandro took a powerful shot that hit the wall. In the midst of the chaos, Koike kicked the ball into the net, equalizing the score to 2-2. Tokyo, fueled by their momentum, continued to attack and in the 67th minute, Kagami broke through the left side and earned a corner kick. From the resulting chaos, Sandro volleyed the ball into the net, scoring their third goal. Finally, in the 82nd minute, Koike kept the ball in the center and made a perfect through pass to Amaral, who was running towards the front line. The Oita defender hesitated for a moment, allowing Amaral to beautifully break through and score their fourth goal.
After this, Oita also received the support of local fans and showed a desperate counterattack, but the defense, led by GK Suzuki, remained focused until the end, throwing themselves in to cut out the danger and securing a victory with a large number of goals for the first time since the June 19th game against JEF (2nd round of the Nabisco Cup).
<Coach Okuma's Comment>At the beginning, we didn't let the opponent break us down, but we gave away a free kick due to our own mistakes and the momentum changed. It was due to a lack of focus, and we need to concentrate more. In the second half, Kaburagi's efforts up front shifted the opponent's marking and allowed us to pass the ball more. We also had more stamina in the second half compared to Oita. I'm glad that the defense also worked hard and put their bodies on the line.
