[Player and Coach Comments]
This round's match venue is 'Yumenoshima Stadium'.
FC Tokyo U-23, having suffered four consecutive losses since the opening match and sitting at the bottom of the standings, faced off against Gamba Osaka U-23, who are also participating in this season as a U-23 team.
Amidst strong winds nationwide, the weather was so severe that there were concerns about whether the match would be held before it started.
The starting eleven for Tokyo has Ue as the goalkeeper since Sec. 2.
In the DF line, Takahashi, who has been a starter since Sec. 2, and Okazaki, who is registered as a second type but has played the full match in every game, form the CB duo, with Yanagi positioned as the right SB and Nozawa as the left SB.
In the midfield, Sho SASAKI, making his first start for the U-23 team, and Yukino are positioned at the bottom, with Hiraoka and Nakajima taking positions on the left and right.
The front line was set up in a 4-4-2 formation with Hayashi and Insoo YU.
Hashimoto, who also came on as a substitute in the previous day's J1 Kawasaki match, is included in the FC Tokyo U-23 squad for the first time.
Gamba Osaka U-23 features veteran Nikawa in the starting lineup, with Koya, who has scored 2 goals in 2 matches, positioned up front.
Although the rain has weakened, the strong winds are raging with a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 30 meters, starting with the kickoff in Tokyo.
[First Half]
Tokyo started downwind.
Osaka takes control of the match.
In the 4th minute of the match, a direct free kick from the right side is taken. This sharp shot hits the crossbar.
Another 6 minutes later, a diagonal pass was made from the left side to the center, and although a shot was taken from a series of short passes, the goalkeeper made a great save.
In a tense match where both sides struggle with ball control, Tokyo also launches a counterattack.
In the 24th minute, Yanagi crossed from the right side, dropping it in front of Hayashi, who took Tokyo's first shot, but it went straight to the goalkeeper.
In the 25th minute, Nakajima faced forward in the left midfield and made a vertical pass. Hayashi evaded the sliding tackle from the opposing defender and broke through.
Connecting with Sho SASAKI who entered the center, SASAKI advanced into the penalty area. He passed to Hiraoka, and although the decisive shot was blocked by the opposing goalkeeper, SASAKI pushed in the rebound thinking it was the opening goal, but it was ruled offside.
Still, Tokyo succeeds in taking the lead.
In the 28th minute, a right corner kick was awarded, and Nakajima set up Hayashi in the center, who shook the net with a header.
I thought they had seized the momentum with an early development, but Osaka took control of the match.
In the 29th minute, we were threatened by a goal from a free kick, and in the 32nd minute, a vertical pass from the midfield connected to the right side, but the diagonal shot was blocked by the goalkeeper.
However, in the 34th minute, after being given a vertical pass in the midfield, they created a starting point and expanded to the right side. They allowed an advance vertically.
The cross from the opponent's turn was volleyed in to equalize the score.
After that, the match remained unchanged with Osaka taking 8 shots compared to Tokyo's 3, but Tokyo efficiently scored a goal, ending the first half at 1 to 1.
[Halftime]
Manager Anma's Comment
"Focus on the ball. Let's keep victory in mind. Let's play well, play good soccer, and move forward with confidence."
[Second Half]
The clouds have cleared, and the sunlight is shining in the second half.
Tokyo replaces Sasaki with Hashimoto. This will further energize the midfield.
Tokyo, standing upwind, is about to take control of the match.
However, they lack the precision in the final pass and cannot bring it to a finish.
As the back-and-forth battle continues, Tokyo brings in Niji to change the flow, replacing Hiraoka.
In the 72nd minute, Nakajima attempted a direct free kick with no spin, but it narrowly missed the goal.
Then, in the 79th minute, a pass mistake in their own half was intercepted, leading to a crisis, but Kai showed a sharp reaction.
In the 80th minute, the opponent broke through with a long pass, and although a shot was taken to the near side after a cutback, Kamei made another great save.
Although the wind gradually weakens, both sides struggle with ball control, engaging in fierce battles for possession and trying to push forward to seize victory.
In the 42nd minute, Tokyo attempted to score from Nakajima's dribbling breakthrough but was blocked by the opposing DF.
Kono kobore-kyuu o Yukino ga midoru shūto o hanatsu mo bā no ue.
In the final stages of the match, although we were once again pressured by Gamba, the defense maintained their concentration, and the match ended.
FC Tokyo U-23 has earned its first point, moving up to 15th place.
Thank you very much for your passionate support for FC Tokyo U-23.
We appreciate your continued warm support.
[Summary of Coach Anma's Press Conference]
"First of all, I would like to thank the fans, supporters, and sponsors who have patiently watched over our team, which is struggling to earn points in this bad weather."
In the match, we have been addressing challenges and themes in both offense and defense every round. While we have been able to do more, today's match is a confrontation between U-23 teams belonging to the same J1 league, so I made sure to send them out with the awareness of needing to win against opponents we will face in the coming years. I conveyed that it is not the team that plays good soccer or good plays that wins, but the team that plays with confidence. I scouted the match between Cerezo and Gamba and strongly emphasized the importance of ball contests and transitions between offense and defense. They played with a strong desire not to lose, but the reality is that we can only earn one point, so I want to face the players to add quality to this level of activity and aim to win at least one match to secure a position in J1.
