[Player/Coach Comments]
"Yuichi MARUYAMA"
(Looking back on today's match)
"Regarding the scene where we conceded a goal, I lost to player Lins. However, I think it was great that my desire to score and make up for it led to the equalizing goal. Even after player Utaka was sent off, we were able to fight together as a team, including the players on the bench, and that led to today's result. It was an away game, so we want to take this result positively and continue it in the next home game."
(Was there any discussion between Ota and something about the scoring scene?)
"There was no particular discussion. Ota always puts in great balls for me. It was such a wonderful ball that I just had to hit it."
(What was your mindset entering the game in the second half?)
"We were down 0-1 in a numerical disadvantage, but both the players and the coach believed that chances would come. It would have been even better if we could have scored another goal, but I think we were able to fight calmly as an organized team."
(It was a development that did not make us feel disadvantaged in numbers)
"Since Kofu didn't come forward, we were able to have a possession-based game. On the defensive side, we talked about being careful of Hyun Soo JANG and 'let's focus on counterattacks', so I think we were able to defend well by putting our bodies on the line, including the defensive midfielders."
"Kosuke OTA"
(It was a wonderful assist)
"It's frustrating that I couldn't score from the direct free kick chance right before the end of the game... I didn't have it. Of course, I wanted to win and go home, but I think I was able to do the minimum. But still, I feel disappointed."
(What were you thinking about your strategy after being scored on?)
"It wasn't just after being scored on, but I think we were able to fight with a good balance throughout the game. I thought that if we continued to do that, the opponent's physical strength would decrease in the second half, so I wanted to end the first half with zero goals conceded if possible. Just before the end of the first half, UTAKA player was sent off, and in the second half, we had no choice but to do our best, so I think our goals became clearer. Our true desire was to create our own style within the flow of the game, but it's also important to score from set pieces, so I think it was a decent result."
(Wasn't set plays important because it became a numerical disadvantage?)
"We were able to concentrate on each kick, and we had a good feeling of being able to kick good balls in other situations as well. I want to share that with the players on the team and gain the ability to turn the game around."
"Tokyo - Takayoshi Amma Coach's Press Conference Summary"
"I am truly grateful for the many fans and supporters who came to the venue in the rain and cheered for us."
In the last few games, we have been conscious of reducing goals while holding the ball and trying to express it on the pitch. We lost against Kashiwa, but by continuing to challenge without wavering, we achieved a ball possession rate of 57% in the game against Iwata.
However, facing the Kofu match, we had the challenge of not being able to score despite entering the attacking third 50 times, so we tried to fix that.
I think it was good that we were able to change the rhythm and attack multiple times, such as when we slowly connect and carry the ball to the front line, or when we quickly carry the ball to the goal front with a long pass from the last line, and we were able to take 6 shots in the first half.
However, we conceded a goal from a set piece and then had a player sent off, putting us in a numerical disadvantage.
During halftime, the players exchanged words and discussed specific strategies while envisioning the path to a comeback. In the end, they were determined to become a team that could win even in this situation.
In the second half, the players continued to challenge without reducing their activity until the very end, and earned one point.
I really hope that their inner parts are also changing and I look forward to the next game.
There were some parts that ended in a tie and some parts where players were sent off, so those are points to reflect on. There is still a lot that needs to be done. I want to continue working to improve the quality.
"Q&A"
Q=What was your strategy for defending against Kofu's attacks in the second half? Your movements didn't seem to show any numerical disadvantage.
"First of all, we were in a disadvantageous situation in terms of numbers, so there was also a way to end it safely with a 0-1 score."
However, after seeing the atmosphere in the halftime locker room, I felt that we should choose to go for the win.
I think it looked like there were a lot of people because they kept moving the ball and taking angles. Another reason why it looked like there were a lot of people was because they quickly switched when they lost the ball and didn't let the front players get a good ball. They were able to create a calm 1v2 situation, including the GK, even though they were attacked a few times on the counter, and I think it was good that they were able to see and respond to the opponent's situation until the very end.
"Kofu - Tatsuma Yoshida's Press Conference Summary"
"It was an ideal way to end the first half, with one goal from a set piece despite facing 2-3 decisive moments in the rain. It's a shame that we couldn't win after conceding from a set piece. However, I think it's an important point that we need to cherish."
Yesterday, I didn't know until today that we had escaped the relegation zone based on goal difference. However, it is very important to surpass the opponent by at least one point in terms of points, and to have the possibility of remaining in the league in our own hands. I think it was important that we were able to bring ourselves into a situation where it was up to us, even if it was just one point.
The players returned to the locker room with a defeated look, but in a situation where frustration and negative emotions are easily expressed, it is important for the players to talk and share positive opinions to come together as one.
We couldn't even take the ball from the right side to the left side, even though we had one more player. It's not someone else's fault, it's our own ability. With 5 games left, I want to lift the team up and overcome this situation so we can tough it out and win.
Katsuya Ishihara announced his retirement and will hold a press conference here later, but I was hoping to create a situation where he could easily hold the conference here. However, that was not possible. We want to make the one point we took today meaningful and run through the remaining five games with the help of Ishihara's strength."
Q=What was the reason for not being able to attack despite not feeling much numerical advantage in the second half?
"I think it was a big problem that we couldn't calmly connect the ball we took away to the right place. Even though we had one more player, we knew that FC Tokyo would have the ball. We ended up pulling back a little, and when we tried to attack, we didn't have enough players in the midfield, so we ended up sticking to the opponent's DF line. We didn't have enough time, so we couldn't move the clock forward and we couldn't exhaust the opponent."
Q=What is the evaluation of the team's generational change so far?
"The base of always having the best players in their best condition remains unchanged. Shimakawa, who came from J3, is getting used to the speed of J1 and played in the game, but today he couldn't make a pass in front and ended up being behind. However, I think the players are definitely growing, and rather than a generational change, players who didn't have a chance on this stage are gradually reaching the level where they can play in J1. However, when the opponent became 10 players, our lack of ideas, speed, and experience were exposed. But I also see room for growth there."
