[Club Support Members] FC Tokyo 2021 Season Report

Thank you very much for your generous support during the 2021 season. We would like to report the achievements of our academy, which has been supported by our club support members, for the 2021 activities.

□Report from the Secretariat
The 2021 season, which was also affected by the pandemic, saw continued restrictions on home games following the 2020 season. Despite this, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of you for your support. While the top team was unable to meet expectations, the U-18 players played in many Levain Cup matches in the early stages of the season and contributed to the team's victories, showing a united front for the club. In addition, our academy won the 36th Japan Club Youth Soccer Championship (U-15) and was able to show steady progress to all of you. Furthermore, as we look towards the 2022 season, U-18 players Kojiro YASUDA, Yuki KAJIURA, and Leon NOZAWA have been promoted, and Shuto OKANIWA, who has played for Meiji University after going through U-15 and U-18, will also join us. Your long-standing support has been the foundation of the club's strength. We would like to express our gratitude once again. We would like to report the 2021 season's income and expenses for our club support members, which are supported by your annual membership fees, as follows.
FC Tokyo's various categories are already moving towards the next season. We appreciate your continued support for the 2022 season.

Looking back on the 2021 season, we were unable to achieve satisfactory results as a team, both in terms of performance and content of football. As a coach, that is my honest feeling. Despite the continued restrictions, we were unable to increase the intensity of our training or provide stimulation on and off the pitch. I have regrets about whether we could have developed individuals more or made them stronger. However, the players worked really hard every day and fought with determination. I feel that this is also a tradition rooted in the club.

In addition, in recent years, many U-18 players have been able to participate in top-level training, and at the same time, U-15 players have been used in official youth matches, making it easier to break down the barriers between categories. As a result, three players will be promoted to the top team this year, but it is not an easy task. We also hope that the club will continue to create an environment where professionals can be consistently produced, including through universities.

I have been fortunate enough to join FC Tokyo and have served as a coach and manager for all development age groups, including U-23. I am truly grateful to have spent 10 years considering what is required of each group. At Musashi, where I first joined FC Tokyo, players such as Go HATANO and Yoshitake SUZUKI were in their second year. Since then, players like Takefusa KUBO and Taichi HARA have also emerged to play overseas, and I am excited to see their future growth.

However, while the main goal is to produce professionals as a J-League club, my personal ideal is to be able to play soccer with anyone in any situation. I want to nurture people who love soccer and can enjoy it, including competition. I am also happy to see more people involved in soccer, with graduates who have continued playing soccer from U-18 to university and then as adults.

We truly felt the generous and reassuring support from all of our club supporters. We regret not being able to personally greet you, but we sincerely thank you and would be grateful if you could continue to support us in the future.

The 2021 season was a disappointing one for Fukagawa in terms of results. However, the team had a group of players who were the most serious and dedicated to soccer in Fukagawa so far, steadily building up their training and preparation for games. They left an impression of being a team with no ups and downs, but rather a cohesive unit. Originally, the third-year players were serious but quiet, lacking some essential qualities for team sports such as being demanding of others, expressing their thoughts, and bringing out the thoughts of others. These are crucial for aiming to become a professional. Over the past year, efforts were made to improve in these areas and changes were seen. Furthermore, both physically and mentally, there are many players who can be expected to excel from here on out.

'In the "Kanto League Division 1", we fought until the end to avoid relegation, and we reflect on the fact that we still lacked strength in that aspect. However, each and every one of us had a strong feeling that "We must not be relegated as FC Tokyo. For the sake of our juniors." We were able to finish the season by surviving a tough league where 1/3 of the teams would be relegated in 9 games due to a change in regulations. This should be an important experience in their soccer careers. Especially in the last 3 games, there was tremendous growth, and every day we could feel the intensity of training and the toughness of playing games. I told the players, "From now on, you will go to various teams, and I hope you will always be able to compete for the championship, but there may be times when you have to fight to avoid relegation like this. Please do not forget that you gave your all even in such situations." And to the third-year students, I said, "I hope you will come back to Ajinomoto Stadium someday."'

During the corona pandemic, we were unable to have training camps or go on overseas trips. In such circumstances, the "Inter City Cup" tournament that we participated in during the summer was a very positive experience. We took precautions such as having individual rooms for accommodations and having meals while watching Zoom screens, but we were able to ride on the team bus together and share time as a team before and after matches, which I believe helped us build strong bonds. Also, at the "Prince Takamado Cup All Japan Youth" in winter, it was truly a long time since we had fans and supporters come to watch, and we were deeply grateful for their support. That's why we have regrets about not being able to win and fight longer, but your support is definitely a source of motivation and encouragement for the players, and it leads to their growth. To all of our club support members, we sincerely thank you for your support and assistance.

"At the 36th Japan Club Youth Championship (U-15), we were able to achieve our long-awaited first national victory since the establishment of U-15 Musashi. We always talk to our players about the meaning of "CSM (Club Support Member)" marked on their uniforms, but we have once again realized that we are able to work in such a fortunate environment thanks to everyone's support. We deeply appreciate it."

This year's team had a lively and highly communicative ability for each player to demonstrate a variety of strengths. In addition, by improving our problem-solving skills during the game, we were able to change the flow of the game ourselves and achieve victory.

In addition, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to use our usual training facilities, but having the opportunity to train at Kodaira and Musashino-En had a positive impact. We were able to closely coordinate with the U-18 team and also had the chance to observe the top team's training up close. This, combined with the players' motivation to achieve their goals, had a positive effect.

At the "Prince Takamado Cup All Japan U-15 Soccer Championship", we were defeated in the round of 16 and felt regretful. It was a year with many opportunities to think about why we succeeded and why we didn't, and to challenge ourselves. We will never forget the answers we came up with by thinking and challenging ourselves. I believe that the players will definitely use these fulfilling experiences to further their efforts in the future.

We will continue to work towards building a new history with all of you in the 2022 season, and also aim to produce players who can represent Japan and compete in the world by playing in the top team. Thank you for your continued support.
