[U-18] Germany Expedition Report Day 4

Today, the sky is cloudy with occasional light rain since morning.
In the morning, the players visited the arena (stadium) of Schalke 04, where Japan national team player Uchida is enrolled. The players, witnessing the facilities of a Bundesliga big club, seemed to rekindle their dreams of the world.

It takes about an hour by bus from Schalke Arena to the match venue at Dortmund training ground.
The second match of the Germany expedition, vs. Dortmund U-19, kicks off at 6 PM local time. (Today's halves are 40 minutes each)
Unlike yesterday's match against Bayer Leverkusen, we are struggling with the build-up from Dortmund's defensive line and the positional changes in midfield, making it difficult to pinpoint where to win the ball.
◈Two minutes into the match, the ball was easily brought in front of the goal, resulting in a quick concession of a goal. For a while after that, they struggled to find their rhythm, but around the 10-minute mark, they gradually began to seize the flow of the game. With effective ball recovery that suppressed the opponent's ball distribution, they launched quick attacks centered around forwards Kenta OKUMA, Ryo SATO, and Yoshiatsu OIJI, creating several scoring opportunities. However, they were unable to break through the opponent's resilient defense, and the first half ended without scoring.

The same development continued in the second half, but in the 62nd minute, a counterattack caught us behind the defensive line. Despite desperately holding on in front of the goal, we were overwhelmed by the opponent's intensity, resulting in a painful own goal. The score was now a two-goal deficit.
Daisuke Minami, who came on as a substitute in the 70th minute, applied intense pressure from the front line to steal the ball from the opposing GK and closed the gap to one goal.
Tokyo, riding the momentum, continues to attack the opponent's goal one after another but fails to score.
In the closing moments, a cross from Katsuya Aihara's breakthrough on the right side was met with a sliding effort from Hanya, which seemed like a goal, but was ruled offside.
The match ended with a score of 1-2.

We gained confidence in being able to play our football even against stronger and older opponents, but on the other hand, there was a lack of intensity and toughness in front of the goal.
As with yesterday, there is still a certain naivety in terms of the competitiveness that does not let opportunities slip away, and I have learned a lot from these two matches.
I want to gradually accumulate experiences like this and aim for further improvement both as a team and as individuals.

FW Kenta OKUMA's comment
"Dortmund is physically strong, has great technical skills with the ball, and everything is fast-paced."
MF Shuto ABE's comment
"They are very good at possession, and there were many things to learn from them. Personally, I want to improve the quality at the end."
