After playing for Shimizu High School in Shizuoka Prefecture and Tsukuba University, he played for Nissan Motor and Shimizu. After serving as a coach at Tokai Gakuen Hamamatsu University and Shimizu, he became a renowned coach who won the domestic treble as the first Japanese coach in J-League history at G Osaka. Since 2018, he has been showcasing his skills at FC Tokyo.
