<About the Tama River Clasico>
Both clubs have been pushing each other as "good rivals" since the JFL era in 1997, with intense game content and numerous dramatic game developments. In particular, in 1999, Tokyo Gas entered the J1 league and became the current FC Tokyo, and both clubs successfully promoted to the J1 league after a fierce promotion battle. Kawasaki Frontale was relegated to the J2 league in one year, but returned in 2005 and have been engaged in fierce battles with both clubs once again.
In this land separated by the Tama River, the history of competing and improving each other has shown an excitement that is no less than the "Derby" held in other cities. And from now on, we will cherish the history of both clubs and continue this battle as a tradition. Therefore, we named it "Tama River Clasico," combining the symbol that separates the two clubs, the "Tama River," and the word "Clasico," which means "traditional battle" in Spanish.
The "Tama River Clasico" started in 2007, but in order to honor the history of fierce battles between FC Tokyo and Kawasaki Frontale, which have been in existence since the J2 inaugural year of 1999, it is counted as the "Tama River Clasico" from 1999. From 1999 to 2006, there were a total of 10 matches. In 2007, the event was officially launched and the first match was held on May 6, 2007 as the "11th Tama River Clasico" during Kawasaki Frontale's home game.
In the future, we will continue to strive together as both clubs so that we can build a history of 50, 100, 200... and beyond.
The current match record for FC Tokyo is 10 wins, 9 draws, and 19 losses.
※Both clubs have agreed that only matches in the league will be counted as the "Tama River Clasico". (Matches in cup competitions, such as the Emperor's Cup, will not be counted.)
