□ What are "Healthy Heart Week" and "Healthy Heart Day"
Circulatory diseases, represented by stroke and heart disease, are known to be the second leading cause of death among Japanese people after cancer. However, they rank first in medical expenses and are also the leading cause of nursing care needs, making them a significant social issue beyond just healthcare. On the other hand, unlike cancer, prevention through proper education is extremely effective. Therefore, the Basic Act on Cardiovascular Disease Countermeasures enacted in 2019 emphasizes the promotion of nationwide prevention awareness. The Japan Heart Foundation designated August 10 (Heart Day) in 1985 as "Healthy Heart Day" and has held heart disease prevention awareness events annually around August 10. Since 2021, the Japanese Circulation Society, the Japanese Circulation Association, and the Japan Heart Foundation,and from 2023, the Japan AED Foundation have joined4organizations to collaborate and establish the Healthy Heart Day Executive Committee, further promoting awareness. This year, various events will be held over approximately two weeks from Saturday, July 29, 2023 to Thursday, August 10, 2023 under the title "Healthy Heart Week 2023."
