□ What is "Healthy Heart Day"?

Cardiovascular diseases, represented by stroke and heart disease, are known to be the second leading cause of death among Japanese people after cancer. However, in terms of medical expenses, they rank first, and they are also the leading cause of nursing care needs, making them a significant social issue beyond just healthcare. On the other hand, unlike cancer, prevention through proper education is extremely effective. Therefore, the Basic Act on Cardiovascular Disease Measures enacted in 2019 emphasizes the promotion of nationwide prevention awareness. The Japan Heart Foundation designated August 10 (Heart Day) in 1985 as "Healthy Heart Day" and has held heart disease prevention awareness events annually around August 10. Since 2021, the Japanese Circulation Society, the Japanese Circulation Association, and the Japan Heart Foundation, and from 2023 the Japan AED Foundation, have collaborated to form the Healthy Heart Day Executive Committee, further advancing awareness and promotion efforts.
2025 will mark the 40th anniversary, and events are being held nationwide.
