□ What is the Tamagawa Clasico…
Since the JFL era in 1997, both clubs have been fierce rivals, competing intensely and creating numerous dramatic matches as "good rivals" who push each other to improve. Especially in 1999, the first year of J2, Tokyo Gas rebranded as FC Tokyo with the goal of entering the J1 League. Both clubs fought hard in the promotion race and succeeded in being promoted to the J1 League together. Kawasaki Frontale was relegated to J2 after one year but was promoted again in 2005, renewing the intense battles between the two clubs.
In this area divided by the Tamagawa River, the history of competing while raising each other's level has generated excitement comparable to any "derby" held in other cities. To cherish this history and continue this rivalry as a tradition, the two clubs combined the symbol dividing them, the "Tamagawa" River, with the Spanish word "Clasico," meaning "traditional match," and named it the "Tamagawa Clasico."
Although the name "Tamagawa Clasico" officially started in 2007, to honor the intense battles between FC Tokyo and Kawasaki Frontale, the matches have been counted as "Tamagawa Clasico" since the first J2 season in 1999. From 1999 to 2006, there were a total of 10 matches. The project officially began in 2007, and the first match under this name was held on May 6, 2007, at Kawasaki Frontale's home game, designated as the "11th Tamagawa Clasico." Moving forward, both clubs will continue to push each other to build a history of 50, 100, 200 matches and beyond.
 

※ It is agreed by both clubs that only matches counted as the Tamagawa Classico will be from the "league matches". (Matches in cup competitions, including the Emperor's Cup, will not be counted.)
 

The current match record is 8 wins, 7 draws, and 12 losses for Tokyo.
