Match info

The Meiji Yasuda J1 Century Vision League Sec. 14 match vs Kawasaki Frontale, held on Saturday, May 2nd (Kickoff at 14:00 / Ajinomoto Stadium), will feature various events jointly organized with Kawasaki Frontale as the 'Tamagawa Clasico'.

To enhance the Meiji Yasuda J1 League Centennial Concept League, the Tamagawa Clasico, which is usually limited to league matches, will be held as a special edition "Tamagawa Clasico Centennial Concept League Edition" in the Meiji Yasuda J1 Centennial Concept League.

<What is the Tamagawa Clasico>

Since the JFL era in 1997, both clubs have been pushing each other as "good rivals" through intense matches and numerous dramatic developments. Especially in 1999, the first year of J2, Tokyo Gas rebranded as the current FC Tokyo with the aim of entering the J1 League. Both clubs fought fiercely in the promotion battle and succeeded in being promoted to the J1 League together. Kawasaki Frontale was relegated to the J2 League after one year but was promoted again in 2005, and the two clubs have been engaged in fierce competition once more.
In this land divided by the Tama River, the history of competing and elevating each other has shown excitement comparable to the 'derbies' held in other cities. Moving forward, cherishing the history of both sides and continuing this rivalry as a tradition, the two clubs combined the symbol that separates them—the 'Tama River'—with the Spanish word 'Clasico,' meaning 'traditional match,' to name it the 'Tama River Clasico.'
Although the name "Tamagawa Clasico" officially started in 2007, to honor the intense history of battles between FC Tokyo and Kawasaki Frontale, we count the matches from the inaugural J2 season in 1999 as part of the "Tamagawa Clasico." From 1999 to 2006, there were a total of 10 matches. The project officially began in 2007, and the match held on May 6, 2007, at Kawasaki Frontale's home game was designated as the "11th Tamagawa Clasico." Moving forward, both clubs will continue to strive and build the history toward the 50th, 100th, 200th matches and beyond.

The current match record is 12 wins, 9 draws, and 25 losses for FC Tokyo.

* After discussions between both clubs, only matches counted as 'league matches' will be considered as part of the Tamagawa Clasico (matches in cup competitions and the Emperor's Cup will not be counted).
