【Oni Daikoza Profile】
Oni Daikoza was formed in 1969 by a group of young people gathered under the vision of the late Den Tagayasu in Sado. The foundation of their activities lies in the "Running Music Theory," which states that "running and music are one, and they reflect the drama and energy of life."
After finishing the Boston Marathon in 1975, he made a shocking debut by running straight onto the stage and performing on a large drum measuring three feet and eight inches.
Starting with the Carnegie Hall performance in 1990, we will undertake the unprecedented "Nationwide Tour Across America" covering 14,910 km.
In the 2012 performance hosted by the Japan Foundation, "Overcoming the Great East Japan Earthquake: World Tour," a journey of gratitude for support against the Great East Japan Earthquake was conducted, including the General Assembly Hall at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, circling the globe in one month.
In addition to the 2013 Abu Dhabi performance and other overseas performances, domestically, activities are themed around not only music but also contemporary art and coexistence with nature, such as the Setouchi International Art Festival and the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale.
2014 Oni Daikoza 45th Anniversary Project Performance "Return to the Field Path ~No Story Needed! Use Your Whole Body as Ears and Receive the Waves!~" performed in various locations across Japan.
Since 2015, we have started the Earth Meeting Caravan, aiming for the 50th anniversary of the Ondekoza in 2020, traveling to countries such as Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, Portugal, UAE, and China, and currently performing across Japan. We participated in the IOC-recognized event "Everyone's Hand Over Rio to TOKYO" at Odaiba Fuji TV and the "Classic Rock Awards 2016" festival featuring rock artists from around the world at the National Sumo Hall.
In addition to a month and a half tour in the American Midwest, a month in Dubai, and three weeks in China, we traveled domestically from Hokkaido to Setouchi. In September of the same year, we performed at the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup 2019 Japan, and on November 9, we performed with the taiko drums at the National Festival celebrating the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor.
Run, strike, dance. The challenge of the Fujiyama Onidaikoza continues.
